Simple Photography Guide and Tips Better Digital Pictures

Macro Button - Push this button to take all of your close up photos.
Portrait - Create sharp focus on your subject while blurring the background.
Night Scene - Take pictures against sunsets. The flash lights the subject and a slower shutter brightens the background.
Movie Mode - Create movies with this setting
Landscape - Take pictures of mountains, beaches, and similar landscape
Stitch Assistant - Take overlapping pictures and stich them together for panoramic scenes (be sure to overlap pictures)

Indoors

Indoor digital photography is tricky because of lighting issues and small spaces. While I highly reccomend the Flashclip for indoors, here are some other tips.

Birthday Parties - Keep the lights on (or at least dim). The light will help you keep your subject in the photo

Research - Often you can replace a copy machine with your digital camera. Press the Macro () button, select a black and white mode, and use your flash. If the flash washes out the picture, diffuse it with a FlashClip or similar device. Higher resolution will typically give you a cleaner picture, but a decent picture can be produced at 2 megapixels if needed.

Weddings - If you haven't shot a wedding before, it is probably best to leave it to the professionals. If it is just for fun and practice, get a high quality SLR, flash bracket, external flash and diffuser, and lots of extra batteries. Plan your shots ahead, and shoot in RAW mode.

Ebay Pictures - Find an area with natural indirect lighting. Set your camera up with a tripod, and grab a pillow and a sheet for a background. Use the Macro () button, and set your white balance manually (check your manual for this important step) and take the picture at an angle.

Outdoors

For the best outdoor photography, be sure you bring a tripod. Yes it can be a hassle, but if you are going to carry a camera anyway you might as well carry the right equipment to take the picture. Generally, it is best to take your outdoor pictures in the morning and in the late afternoon.

Scenic - The Landscape button () or setting will work best for scenic pictures (mountains, fields, nature, etc.).

Backlit pictures - Especially with people in the foreground and a sunset for the background, are best taken with the night scene setting ().
